Painting and Drawing, Introduction – Term 4
Explore your creative side with FCAC’s introductory Painting and Drawing workshops. You will learn preliminary skills in the art of drawing, working primarily in charcoal. An ideal class for beginners, this is a fun, interactive experience to share with friends.
Led by an experienced artist, in this workshop you will learn to use line, shape, colour composition and texture with confidence. Suitable for beginners and intermediate participants. Materials supplied.

Week 1: LINE
Using charcoal and graphite to recreate a still life arrangement, focusing on building tone with line techniques and blending.
Week 2: TONE
Using black and white paint to mix and blend tone, developing depth, light and shadow.
Week 3: TEXTURE
Analysing the detail of rocks and leaves, exploring techniques to recreate texture and naturally occurring patterns.
Week 4: MOVEMENT
Creating movement with smudging and painting to depict the direction of falling rain.
Week 5: LANDSCAPE
Introducing colour mixing and brush techniques with acrylic paints. Analysing perspective, vanishing point, foreground and background of a sunset.
Week 6: PORTRAITS
Introducing watercolour techniques and ink to draw the human face.
Week 7: ABSTRACTION
Drawing and painting from imagination and preparing materials for tonal collage.
Week 8: COLLAGE
‘Painting’ with paper to recreate tone and form.
