Spice Trails: Introduction to Dyeing
Spice up your life and explore basic dyeing processes with artist and herbalist Rasha Tayeh (Beit e’Shai). Using silks and spices, make your own silk dye using fresh and dried tumeric. This workshop is an extension of Rasha’s sold out Spice Trails event series held at FCAC; a series of immersive performative dinners inspired by the spice trade along Silk Road. Participants will take their creation to the next level, learning how to present and use the fabrics as a tactile, textured gift-wrap to take home.

WHEN: Saturday 4 May, 11am – 1pm
COST: $90 per workshop or $160 with Fabric Design: Rust and Plant Dyeing (save $20)
About the Artist: Rasha Tayeh
Multidisciplinary artist Rasha Tayeh is interested in food as a creative medium to tell stories. Her art practice has evolved into a research-based practice across various art mediums including film, photography and live art. Rasha’s exhibitions at FCAC include an audio-visual exhibition – On Food & Memory – and most recently the sold out Spice Trails – an immersive live art series of performative dinners and installations. This Silk Dying workshop is based on Spice Trails and is inspired by the spice trade along Silk Road.
