Who are The Hackkets?
Proudly hailing from Melbourne’s West, The Hackkets are a band made up of members with and without disability, brought together some 25 years ago as part of FCAC’s Artlife program and still going strong! The band originally focused on covers, immersing themselves in the kind of universal classic hits Rock and Roll that wins over even the most hardened in-car sing-along scrooge, but since 2011 have channeled their love of such classics into their own reinvented AM radio fan-fiction.
The Hacketts are comprised of Stuart Flenley (guitar/vox), Peter Tollhurst (guitar/vox) and Victoria Cini (keys/vox) and Andrew Pagenella (drummer). Each singer brings a distinctly different approach to songwriting and performing. Stuart’s style melds the swagger of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra with a comedic air; Victoria exudes a unique ‘rock chick’ persona with a touch of ‘rebel without a cause’; and Peter’s lyrics explore his anxieties and frustrations associated with miscommunication, isolation, impracticality and weather fluctuations.
Rounding out the band are members Dan Parsons (guitar), Robin Waters (The Boat People, Machine Translations) and Joe Vella (a veteran of the live music circuit).
The Hackkets 25 year tour is supported by Australia Council for the Arts.
