At a time when the political landscape in Australia is moving towards an Asia-inclusive vision, this work explores the authentic practices, essence and spirit of Asian art forms. Performed by Australian artists, the show speaks through the English language and the works of Shakespeare, for the contemporary Australian audience. It probes the effect and duality of colonisation, and reflects on the way sell ourselves in a colonised world.
The Magic Hour is a flamboyant evening of Dance Theatre combining scenes from The Bard’s plays with comedy and dance forms from India’s Kathakali and Odissi, as well as Japanese Avant Garde dance, Butoh and Body Weather.
