Things That Fall Over; an anti-musical of a novel inside a reading of a play, with footnotes, and oratorio-as-coda
Things That Fall Over; an anti-musical of a novel inside a reading of a play, with footnotes, and oratorio-as-coda (TTFO) is an epic work about women and creativity, about women silenced and women heard, and the role of artists in a changing culture. Part celebration, part provocation, Things That Fall Over is by award-winning writer, Peta Murray, with music by Peta Williams. This inter-generational community-based performance event is presented as part of FCAC’s program for International Women’s Day 2014.
TTFO begins indoors with a ticketed rehearsed reading and concludes in the amphitheatre with a non-ticketed presentation of Swansong!!!The Musical!!! a free presentation for family audiences (BYO PICNIC/UKULELE). Our all-female ensemble comprises professional artists, with women and girls from Footscray and beyond. TTFO concerns women’s visibility in the arts, our relationships to literary and cultural canons, creative ageing and the importance of arts and crafts as means of transforming and sustaining communities.
