What is Australian Writing?

The notion of what it means to be ‘Australian’ is consistently a contentious topic: we’ve always been a mishmash of indigeneity, colonialism, migrantism and more. However, the variety of backgrounds and lives of all Australians have not traditionally been fairly and broadly represented in mainstream culture, including in literature and all other written media. Are we beginning to see a change in this state of affairs? Are publishing houses, newspapers and literary magazines starting to recognise that true representation is the opposite of occasional tokenism? Three literary magazine editors—Bec Zajac, André Dao and Eleanor Jackson will discuss this issue as well as the ins-and-outs of producing a literary magazine. Chaired by Sam Cooney, publisher and editor-in-chief of The Lifted Brow.

Panelists: Sam Cooney, André Dao, Eleanor Jackson and Bec Zajac.

WHEN: Saturday 15 November, 4.30pm – 5.30pm
WHERE: FCAC Performance Space
COST: Included in Forum Pass. Click here to book a forum pass.
