Wominjeka Festival 2019: Blak 2 the Future Exhibition Launch

Overview

Take a step through a portal into an alternate reality: the present retold by young Aboriginal people. We saw our future and we’re bringing it to you here and now – hope you’re ready, because here we are.

Blak 2 The Future is a remount of the successful Blak to the Future program. Standing on a foundation of self-determination, Blak 2 The Future brings together a mix of young and emerging curators and artists, and turns over a gallery to them with the question – what is a Blak space?

The exhibition will feature new works created onsite and invited works from the curatorial team in conjunction with other young blak artists. The works will reference the artists’ own lives and cultural influences.

Blak 2 the Future is for mob by mob. This exhibition will again bring together a self-formed collective of young artists with an experienced mentor, and again demonstrate the creativity, compassion and power of young blackfullas teamed up and given a chance. Curated by Rosie Kalina, Wemba Wemba, Gunditjmarra and Savanna Kruger, Wotjobaluk, South Sea Islander.
