LIVING NOW Theatre Residency
In partnership with Malthouse Theatre, Footscray Community Arts Centre is proud
to present the inaugural recipients of the Living Now playwright residency, theatre-maker and researcher Tania Cañas and writer Rajith Savanadasa.
Made possible by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation, this program supports storytellers to bring culturally contemporary stories to the stage, incorporating a residency and developmental support, with an eye to developing a mainstage commission.
Tania Canas says she is keen to use this opportunity to highlight the importance of bringing diverse voices to the stage.
“The residency is a means to position a staunchly contemporary voice and writing…this residency means not only a shift in what stories are told, but who tells them and where.”
Rajith, who’s first novel Ruins was published last year, is excited to bring his documentary, realistic style of writing to the stage.
“Just being in this space and meeting people who are working in theatre is very inspiring and opens up your mind … I’m hoping to make a difference,” Rajith said.
The next application round for the Living Now residency program will open January 2018. Please email your enquiries to [email protected].
