Steven is a Melbourne-based socially engaged artist having completed his Masters of Arts and Community Practice at VCA, Melbourne University in 2017. Known for his illustrative abstract paintings with bold colour palettes, he is a multimedia artist also working in collage, sculpture and ink. He has a keen interest in collaboration and has worked on numerous projects in the USA, Canada, Japan and Australia, across the visual arts, fashion, performance and events.
An active community arts worker, he has been facilitating art workshops for people of perceived disabilities since 2011. Using art to connect, empower and engage, he believes that the arts is a wonderful tool and platform to create connections and relationships in communities and beyond.
Steven also produces Melbourne’s ‘Gay Stuff’ queer and allied markets, which happens once a month at Hares and Hyenas, Melbourne’s award-winning queer bookshop. It features local artists, creators and style-makers. Recognising a gap the market but also a need for queer space ‘Gay Stuff’ provides a platform for people and social enterprises to sell their works, while creating a community focused event that fosters creativity and interconnectedness.
