Krack! Studio

Krack! is a printmaking studio and gallery in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, established in March 2013. They work collaboratively with artists to produce and exhibit print-based works that are visually innovative and respond critically to events, developments and cultural debates in the Asia Pacific region. Many of the artists they work with are in the first decade of their professional careers, and Krack! provide them the space and materials to explore new techniques and experiment with new forms of expression. Krack! Studios is a collaborative project between Australian artist/art manager Malcolm Smith and Indonesian artists Moki Prihatmoko and Rudi (Lampung) Hermawan.

Rudi (Lampung) Hermawan is a printmaker and artist originally from Lampung, Sumatra. Along with Prihatmoko Moki and Malcolm Smith he is one of the members of Krack!, a print studio that focuses on innovative and critically engaged printmaking.

Rudi’s work explores social issues in Indonesia from an intimate personal perspective. His current project ’The Elephant never Forgets’ is an exhibition of images and a book that tells the story of the ongoing environmental devastation, loss of habitat for endangered species, corruption and ethnic violence that has occurred in his home town of Metro as a result of Suharto’s ‘Transmigrasi’ policy.
