RP Infrastructure appointed as Precinct Plan Project Director

News

Footscray Community Arts is excited to announce the appointment of RP Infrastructure as Project Director to deliver the transformation of our creative precinct and outdoor spaces.

In May 2022, the Victorian State Government committed $8.7 million to support our Precinct Plan Stage 1 to transform our outdoor spaces to support high-quality artistic outcomes and accessible experiences while preserving our greenspace for community.

Last year, Footscray Community Arts attracted over 100,000 visitors for the first time – evidence that the need for inclusive, safe and artistically vibrant spaces grows every day.

RP Infrastructure were selected following a highly competitive select tender process from leading project directors across Victoria experienced in the arts.

They bring a wealth of experience on art and cultural projects including the NGV; The Fox; Melbourne Museum’s Gandel Gondwana park; Castlemaine State Festival’s Shed development; ACMI; The Capitol Refurbishment; Sydney Opera House renewal; and Bunjil Place.

Daniel Santangeli – Co-CEO and Artistic Director of Footscray Community Arts – believes this appointment means the Precinct Plan is well placed to continue serving the need for contemporary, expanded cultural infrastructure.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with RP Infrastructure to deliver the most important cultural infrastructure project in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

“RP Infrastructure will play a key role in supporting Footscray Community Arts to continue our 50-year legacy of nurturing and empowering a vibrant creative community.”

Bringing the necessary expertise to drive the whole project – under the leadership of Footscray Community Arts and our partners in Maribyrnong City Council and Creative Victoria – RP Infrastructure will be responsible for the direction and coordination of the design, procurement and construction processes.

With construction works anticipated to take place in 2025, Stephanie Hope – Project Director at RP Infrastructure believes this project will help Melbourne’s West continue to evolve as a great place to live.

“RP Infrastructure is so pleased to be supporting Footscray Community Arts in this next stage of the revitalisation of their home base on the Maribyrnong River in Footscray.

“We are passionate about the community arts sector and look forward to working with the Footscray Community Arts team on this important project.”
