Our popular comedy show returns on Friday 25 August!
Hosted by Footscray favourite Sam Gebreselassie, the third instalment of Footscray Laughs features some of the nation’s funniest acts, the finest company and the most delicious mulled wine in the West (and some say the country ?).
With artists you know and love from Australian TV and stage, get ready to laugh the last of winter away with us!
These events will be AUSLAN interpreted for members of the hearing impaired and deaf community by our highly experienced comedy interpreters, Marc Ethan and Linda D’Ornay — with AUSLAN interpretation as mesmerising as the performers themselves.

Meet the Comedians
Samuel Gebreselassie (Host)
Hailing from Ethiopia via New Zealand, Melbourne’s freshest comedy voice brings a critical and fresh view to Australia’s comedy scene. A bold artist behind the mic, Sam’s not afraid to tackle ‘uncomfortable’ topics whilst provoking laughs at the same time.
Nath Valvo
Nath Valvo is an award-winning, high-energy comedian with a global following, impressing critics worldwide. He has garnered accolades such as the Adelaide Fringe Weekly Best Award and the prestigious Melbourne Comedy Festival award.
Alex Hines
Alex Hines is a highly decorated comedian and performer known for her energetic stage presence and keen observational character work. In 2022, she received critical acclaim and awards for her show “To Schapelle and Back,” including the Golden Gibbo and nominations at Melbourne Fringe.
Matthew Vasquez
Matthew Vasquez is Melbourne comedian who’s brought his unique charm and warmth to festivals across the country. His jokes about his life and Chilean background granted him a place in the Raw Comedy Grand Final.
Prue Blake
Prue Blake is not only smart, cool and fresh but also efficient. Since learning she was funny from a captive audience at 3 pm in the office she has ticked off comedy achievement after comedy achievement. She’s been a RAW Comedy winner, performed in the prestigious Comedy Zone, The Upfront Gala, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.Her debut stand-up show, Unfriended, helped her carve out a reputation as a “natural storyteller” (The Age) with “a flair for tomfoolery” (Time Out). She is regularly heard on the radio including The Breakfasters (3RRR), Comedy Bites (ABC) and Evenings with David Astle (ABC) and writes the cult favourite newsletter ‘I shaved my legs for…THIS?!’ on Substack.All of this has been achieved with her warm and laidback style of comedy that makes you feel like a friend – though she’ll insist you are just a treasured acquaintance.Sonia Di Iorio
Sonia is a rising star of the comedy stage who has opened for Ronny Chieng and Tommy Little, performed at Splendour in the Grass. For over ten years, she’s performed at comedy clubs all around the country and is currently a writer for Network Ten’s The Project.
