Deepasheni Thirumoothy
Born in Malaysia, Deepasheni is a versatile movement artist with Odia and Tamil heritage. She began dancing at the age of 4, and completed her formal dance training in Bharathanatyam, a South Indian classical dance style, at Kshetra Dance Academy. Upon moving to Australia in 2014, Deepasheni connected with a community of b-boys and Hip-Hop dancers, and this lead her to discover her passion for freestyle dance culture and Hip Hop. She has been actively competing, performing, and developing her freestyling ability by fusing Hip Hop grooves with Bharathanatyam and various other street dance styles. With a Bachelors of Media and Communications (Journalism), Deepasheni is also a visual storyteller who enjoys directing and producing media using movement, film, and research. She believes that understanding different music, dance cultures, and the communities they come from, enables us to be free with the way we dance, and the people we dance with. With an extensive dance vocabulary, Deepasheni aims to help others explore themselves through movement, and cultivate their personal groove as a self-development tool.
