Learn to DJ with Sophie McAlister

Enjoy art in FCAC’s backyard with FCAC Summer’s four weeks of live music, kids experiences, creative workshops, visual arts and talks. Browse the full program here.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn DJing or if you have a passion for music, this workshop is for you! FCAC is lucky to have one of Melbourne’s leading DJs, Sophie McAlister, gracing the Centre with a one of a kind workshop. Learn to DJ basic and complex tracks on industry standard equipment used by the majority of venues across town. This event supports FCAC’s renowned Bluestones Sessions so you can be inspired by the pros and then create your own mixes.

 This tailored workshop will explore:

  • Basic beat matching
  • Understanding EQs
  • The importance of song selection over mixing
  • Introduction to rekordbox and navigating Pioneer interfaces.

Participants must bring a USB with their favourite tracks from one genre of music to use in the workshop.

WHEN: Thursday 11 February, 6pm – 9pm

Meet the Teaching Artist

Behind the counter at Northside records and weekly resident at Magnetic City, Sophie is no stranger to Melbourne’s music scene. With no bounds, Sophie has been liberally firing jams at dance floors all over Melbourne for the past couple of years – working closely with Crown Ruler and Rhythm Section families, but always being a musical friend to all.

Presented as part of FCAC’s Creative Workshops Program
