SCRAP! at West Projections Festival

Overview

Have we read the ‘Terms and Conditions’ before we click ‘agree’?

ArtLife animators decode the ever-changing contract we have with modern technology through stop-motion animation of discarded e-waste. How does the multiplication and reliance on technology in our work, homes and pockets impact the physical world? Constant software updates mirror the life cycle of phones, laptops and TVs. Hardware that is built-to-break, not to last. This road kill on the side of the information highway contributes to the ever-growing pile of electronic junk.

Through visual patterns, repetition and tempo ArtLife animators explore the shared and juxtaposing algorithms of natural materials and the structured digital machine. From natural seedpods grow the machines that connect us to the cyber world.
