Meet the Artists

• Chenturan Aran, Playwright

  

  Chenturan Aran is a Sri Lankan Tamil Australian playwright and journalist. His work has been described as “terrifically sharp”,  “incisively witty”, and “timely and timeless”. His play ‘Cut Chilli‘ (2024) had a sold run at The Old Fitz Theatre and garnered 5 stars from the Sydney Morning Herald with the headline: “A wildly entertaining play to get you excited about Australian theatre again.” Chenturan is an alumnus of MTC’s Cybec Electric, Malthouse Theatre’s Besen Writers Group, and APT’s Pathways Program. In 2023, his memoir piece ‘Truffled Feathers’ was published in ‘Emergence – The 30 best new voices with must-read stories.’

• Isabella Vadiveloo, Director

  

  Isabella is a Naarm/Melbourne based theatre maker who works across disciplines as a theatre director, devisor and Intimacy director. She has a strong interest in the development of new, form pushing and politically engaged performance. With both settler Australian and Tamil Sri Lankan heritage, Isabella prioritises centring underrepresented stories, often working with physical and body focused practices.

  Recent directing credits include Wolf Play (Red Stitch Actors Theatre), Atlantis (Malthouse Theatre), If Needed, Repeat and Unsuckle (La Mama Theatre), Poona (Next Wave Festival), Cybec Electric and First Stage (Melbourne Theatre Company). She was Assistant Director for Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes. In 2020 she was the recipient of the La Mama Theatre Professional Development Grant.

• Rachel Kamath, Producer

  

  Rachel Kamath (she/her) is an Australian actor and producer of Indian descent. As a performer, she has worked extensively in Australia and internationally, including Shantaram (2022) on Apple TV+ and Call the Midwife S13 (2024) on BBC. Her practice as a creative producer involves supporting new Australian work with cultural authenticity while prioritising artist safety. The co-founder of Empty Seat, her notable collaborations include the creative developments of ‘Bruv’ by Chenturan Aran, and ‘Thin Threads’ by Vivian Nguyen. She was a producer on two successful seasons of ‘She Wrote The Letter’ by Kieran Carroll and her latest project, ‘Akaraka’ was supported through Creative Australia, which celebrated Nigerian Igbo culture on stage.

• Sarah Fitzgerald, Cast

  

  Sarah Fitzgerald is an actor, maker and activist of Anglo-Indian descent, based in Naarm (Melbourne). After graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2018, they have worked across theatre and screen. Their credits include SLAP. BANG. KISS. (Melbourne Theatre Company); Emilia (Arts Centre Melbourne); The Great Australian Play (Montague’s Basement) and Oh No! Satan Stole My Pineal Gland! (Melbourne Fringe). They also feature in the short films House of Whoreship (dir. Holly Bates); Alma (dir. Marina Slomp Albertini) and in the feature film Ice Road 2: Vengeance (dir. Jonathan Hensleigh). Most recently, they co-created and toured the theatre show Hell On Earth (Thruples Therapy) and performed in and was movement director for Theys at the Hayes (Hayes Theatre Company). Sarah is a member of the MEAA and is also involved in animal and human rights activism. 

• Michelle Perera, Cast

  

  Michelle Perera is a Green Room Award–nominated Sri Lankan Australian actor, broadcaster, voice artist, and arts advocate with over 30 years of theatre experience. Her recent credits span This is Living (Malthouse), In the Club (Theatreworks), and Julius Caesar (Melbourne Shakespeare Co).
