Artist in Focus: Ian Caplan

Artist in Focus

Ian Caplan

Artist Ian Caplan, who has been an artist in our ArtLife program for over 10 years, is renowned for his colourful portraits of his favourite pop musicians.

In the latest ArtLife group exhibition, How About a Rainbow?, Ian showcases a diverse range of work.

A definite stand out of the show is Ian’s piece Kylie and Dannii (2017), which is a unique portrait of Australia’s favourite famous siblings Kylie and Dannii Minogue. Ian, who has been a fan of the Minogue sister’s music for a long time, says the artwork took a few weeks to complete.

‘It is mixed media on canvas. I used pencil and texta pens…I did black outlines first and then colouring inside the black outline.’ – Ian Caplan

Ian’s work, along with other ArtLife artists, can be seen in the How About a Rainbow? exhibition at the Roslyn Smorgon Gallery until 9 December.
