Emerging Cultural Leaders 2016
Kate ten Buuren
Kate ten Buuren is a young Taungurung artist, filmmaker and journalism student, whose driving force is building confidence throughout her community.
Through the Blakstream Program, Kate is working on a project that will see an art space and residency program for emerging Indigenous artists to participate in, that will also opens its doors to the public for workshops in areas covering a range of art practices, Indigenous cultural knowledge, business, writing and more.
Focusing on the decolonisation of Melbourne’s current art scene, Kate hopes the space will not only boost the confidence of local artists, to prepare them to exist in the art world, but enforce the notion that Indigenous artists are vital players in Australia’s contemporary sphere.
