Back to Back Theatre’sTHE DEMOCRATIC SET: Footscray Community Arts Centre Celebrating 40 Years’ was filmed in May 2014 over 4 days, featuring  220 participants using the unique format of THE DEMOCRATIC SET to portray their story, their way.

Community participants were asked to create short live performances and screen-based video portraits to present ideas around the themes of democracy, equality and freedom. The individual stories were stitched together as part of an intensive editing process with the final piece screened at the FCAC: All In 40th Birthday Party, Saturday 8 November 2014.

Back to Back Theatre has delivered this project both nationally and internationally. The performances are always insightful, funny, hard-hitting and heartfelt – but above all, that are deeply human. The project explores the belief that all people are in principal equal and should enjoy equal social, political and economic rights and opportunities. Contributions are neither restricted or censored.
