With the generous support of the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund and Maribyrnong City Council, our historic Basement Theatre has had a lighting and electrical works upgrade.
A much-loved space for performances, creative developments, parties, conferences and gatherings, the Basement Theatre’s lighting, lighting controls, power outlets, and electrical distribution board have all been brought to modern standards – just in time to deliver a special theatre season of Whose Gonna Love ‘Em i am that i AM by Kamarra Bell-Wykes as part of the NEIGHBOURHOOD Festival.
Footscray Community Arts secured $105,000 through the West Gate Tunnel Neighbourhood Fund in 2021 to undertake upgrades to the Basement Theatre.
Over nearly two years, we have worked alongside Maribyrnong City Council to develop tailored lighting solutions that will allow the Basement Theatre to be safer, more functional and support us to deliver higher quality outcomes for local artists and community groups. Neon lighting was also replaced with energy efficient and dimmable LED lights, also reducing our environmental footprint.
A sincere thank you to the West Gate Tunnel Neighbourhood Fund and Maribyrnong City Council’s Cameron Chau, Kate Shearer and Michael Byrne who supported the project.
We look forward to welcoming audiences, artists and community members into this improved space.
