Works from Footscray Community Arts Collection.

Footscray Community Arts is presenting works from our collection across our Gallery spaces during the first half of 2026. 

The Footscray Community Arts collection had its genesis in The Art Lending Library – the first community arts lending library in Australia a collection of high quality artworks – which is the result of donations of artworks from professional visual artists, philanthropists, and community members.  

In September 2006, Footscray Arts launched its Art Lending Library with an exhibition of works celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic Marios Café in Brunswick Street.  A collection of works was assembled by artists who had exhibited at Marios over the last 20 years and this became the inaugural collection for the Art Lending Library. Since that time the collection has grown with more works donated by both artists and collectors. 

Footscray Community Arts’  Art Collection reflects our nationally and internationally recognised position in the arts and our 50 year-plus reputation for excellence in nurturing, creating and presenting contemporary arts in  collaboration with community.

Works have been selected from our collection and include – 

Entrance Gallery featuring Reko Rennie and Steven Rhall

Basement Theatre Foyer Gallery featuring Ibrahim Ibrahim and Tamirat Gebremariam

Roslyn Smorgon Gallery featuring Ibrahim Ibrahim, Jayde Houareau, Megan Hunter, and Vin Ryan
