Megan Hunter

Megan Hunter is a Melbourne Installation and visual artist based in Western Melbourne. Through her large installation works and textured acrylic painting style, she predominantly explores the themes of environmental activism and the everyday human perspective of the world.

Megan’s work is grounded in environmental activism, often referencing the ocean, waterways and their creatures. The bold lines, vibrant colours and textured paint featured in her works are used to explore her connection with the climate crisis and Australian wildlife. She is constantly experimenting with different materials, including the surfaces she paints upon, and developing new processes to create abstract images is fundamental to Megan’s process.

Her work has been featured in group exhibitions, including ‘Sometimes I Just Miss Hearing their Voice’ for Due West Arts Festival (2019), ‘Heart’ (2019), and BRIGHT (2023) at Footscray Community Arts. Megan’s sound art practice has led to tours through China and Hong Kong with the ensemble The Amplified Elephants. She has been involved in several public art projects and exhibitions with Jolt Arts and Footscray Community Arts. Megan has recently presented her first solo exhibition ‘Hidden Creatures’ at Woods Street Art Space (2024).
