Student Placement Interviews

Each year, Footscray Community Arts (FCA) has the pleasure of welcoming students from our organisational partners Victoria University, who support our operations and programs as part of their student placements.

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Bailey Poskitt and Rayaan Yehia, both enthusiastic students from Victoria University, to discuss their placement experience within our NDIS flagship program; ArtLife Studio.

Introducing Bailey Poskitt!

What are you currently studying?
I am currently studying for a Diploma of Community Services and I am in my final weeks until I am finished with my course. In the future, I would love to work in the disability sector.

Describe your work experience at Footscray Community Arts in three words.

  • Supportive
  • Inspiring
  • Helpful

What has been the most meaningful aspect of your time here?
The most meaningful aspect of my time here is feeling supported by staff members and ArtLife artists which has helped me learn more about myself and gain new skills throughout my journey while doing a placement at FCA.

How has this experience contributed to your overall learning experience?
I feel like this experience has taught me how to work and interact with different types of people from different backgrounds. I believe this placement has given me more of an understanding of what I have studied in the previous years and has given me an idea of what I wanna do in the future. It has also made me realise my own skills and values, and I will continue to use and develop them.

One piece of advice to future students considering doing a placement at FCA.
The one piece of advice I would give is getting out of your own comfort zone. While doing my placement at FCA, I had to get out of my comfort zone a lot, but it has helped me to be more confident.

What has been the most meaningful aspect of your time here?
Being able to see smiles on the artist’s faces when I walk into the workshop every morning.

How has this experience contributed to your overall learning experience?
Building relationships as well as a valuable opportunity that I had to grow and expand on my knowledge in this field.

One piece of advice to future students considering doing a placement at FCA.
Go for it don’t think twice, it’s a lovely and supportive team everyone always caring about each other’s wellbeing and ensuring no one is left behind and always included as well as the bonds you create with the artists are lovely knowing that there are always laughs around the room.
