Production Manager (Artistic)

Ash Buchanan

Ashley was appointed Artistic Production Manager in 2021, after a three-year stint as a technician and Project Manager. With experience spanning 11 years and 2 continents, they specialise in creative technical design contributions that support artists work in exhibition and live performance.

Ashley has collaborated with artists and spaces across the creative spectrum, including visual, dance, theatre and festivals, to provide creative solutions to the delivery of important works such as: Neither Here Nor There with Kiah Pullens, ArtLife Dance for Due West Arts Festival, Karma Dance company’s KālaWeaving Sustainable Culture exhibition and workshops as well as Wrapped in Culture – a project that brought together ten Indigenous artists from Australia and Canada.

As Project Manager, Ashley coordinated a rejuvenation of Henderson House into a set of multi-use residency studios, as well as the on-going development of the Basement Theatre into a state-of-the-art black box theatre. Previous work also includes lighting programmer and LD at the NGV, and as a senior in the lighting department of MTC.

Ashley uses methodological design principles and fast prototyping methods to create custom design features for exhibitions and productions – and takes a project management approach to production coordination. These tools contribute to a robust technical platform for community-engaged practice and the communities of focus as Footscray Community Arts.
